I always buy it on laptops due to an experience I had many years ago. TLDR totally 100% worth it, Apple replaces everything, you might regret it if you don’t because these things are mass produced, and you can point out petty little shit and they’ll replace it anywayĮDIT: One thing i forgot to mention is Accidental damage, and they will replace two incidents for free, otherwise after that, its still a lot cheaper to replace things I work at a Premier partner that authorizes in AppleCare repairs, and I see this way to often, that they didn’t buy AppleCare, the one time they don’t, and they cant afford buying a new something whether it be a phone or computer. On the off chance you get a bad apple, its great to have. Not that this has happened to me, but it is worth mentioning, but every now and then, you do get, dare i say it this way, a bad apple in every orchard (especially when mass produced). That’s something most don’t know and that is AppleCare covers most if not all damage on any device, not just catastrophic things.

Its totally worth it especially because it drives up the resale cost if its in pristine condition to prolong the money on a brand NEW Mac down the line, and just simply because its good to keep your Mac in tip top shape. Not just for repairs, but I come in for even petty shit like a small ding in the display on a computer, there is burn in on my phone, my watches haptic feedback feels off, anything at all and they replace it either at the cheap AppleCare replacement cost, or for free. Honestly, Anything i get at Apple, I make sure to get AppleCare. The thought of "you'll appreciate it when you break it" completely misses the mark and shows a lack of understanding of how extended warranties work. To some people it is a great idea and should absolutely be worth it, and to some people it is not. Whenever the topic of AppleCare comes up, I'm always surprised at how overwhelmingly positive the responses are. My phone or computer is not one of those, since I could re-buy one in a pinch if absolutely necessary. Insurance is worth it on the things that would absolutely fuck you over if lost: car, house, etc. In the event that I DO break something, I would have theoretically saved money from years and years of NOT buying insurance on my consumer goods such that I would still come out ahead. I do not have young children and I am not really prone to accidents I have never broken my electronics, so to me it isn't worth it. There is no right answer to encompass every situation. Even taking it into account, your mileage will vary. This is how I kind of look at it, although I see OP's point about the cost of manufacturing vs. Apple makes money with AppleCare, so that means that on average, purchasers of AppleCare lose money
